Dili, 14April 2016 – H.E. the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, accompanied by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Soares Cabral, on Tuesday, at the Presidential Palace, received the letter of credence from the new ambassadors of the Federation of Malaysia, Chitra Devi A/P Ramiah, replacing Ambassador Tajul Mohammad, and of the Kingdom of Thailand, Patchanee Kithavorn, replacing Ambassador Buskorn Prugaspongse.
After the ceremony, the Head of State met with both ambassadors to personally welcome them and thank both countries for their support to Timor-Leste, namely to the country’s aspiration to join ASEAN.
H.E. the President also called on both ambassadors to cooperate with the Timorese government in areas that require development.
Both ambassadors took the occasion to state their country’s willingness to work together with Timor-Leste in further developing bilateral cooperation.
According to official sources, Malaysia has developed cooperation in the areas of defence, education and agriculture, while Thailand has been providing assistance in the areas of agriculture, tourism and education.
