Dili, 3 May 2016 – H.E. the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, accompanied by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Soares Cabral, on Tuesday, at the Presidential Palace, received the letter of credence from the new ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of New Zealand, Vicki Barbara Poole, replacing ambassador Jonathan Schwass.
After the ceremony, the Head of State met with ambassador Vicki Barbara Poole to personally welcome her and, on behalf of the Timorese State, to thank New Zealand for its support to Timor-Leste. On the occasion, H.E. the President said that he hopes that the new ambassador’s presence in Timor-Leste will contribute to the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
Ambassador Vicki Barbara Poole said that it was a pleasure to take on the new role and promised to make every effort to consolidate the relations of cooperation between New Zealand and Timor-Leste.
New Zealand has been providing assistance in the areas of defence and education. It has been strongly committed to annually awarding scholarships to Timorese students pursuing a university degree (graduate, master’s or doctor’s degree).
