Dili, 15 July 2016 – H.E. the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, on Monday welcomed to Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace the ambassador of the European Union, Sylvie Tabesse, who came to pay a farewell call on the Head of State.
At the meeting, Ambassador Sylvie Tabesse expressed her gratitude for the partnership established between Timor-Leste and the European Union. H.E. the President also took the opportunity to commend Sylvie Tabesse for her leadership and thanked the European Union for its support to Timor-Leste.
Following the meeting with the Head of State, the diplomat told the press that the European Union will provide Timor-Leste with funding of 95 million euros by 2020. The ambassador added that the European Union releases annually 20 million euros to support the rural development program and is contributing to the strengthening of public finance management.
“Rural development is important because it leads to economic diversification, it creates jobs for the youth and facilitates the free movement of motor vehicles. This results in a sustainable and inclusive national development,” Ambassador Sylvie Tabesse said.
The diplomat added that the European Union will continue to support Timor-Leste in proving the Timorese with Portuguese language skills.
At the end of the farewell call, the Head of State presented Sylvie Tabesse with a souvenir to show Timor-Leste’s appreciation for her commitment.
