PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC ACCEPTED CREDENTIAL LETTERS FROM AMBASSADORS OF DENMARK, BANGADESH AND ISRAEL

Presidential Palace Nicolau Lobato, February 23, 2018 – The President of the Republic Francisco Guterres Lu Olo accepted credentials this morning from Ambassador Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen of the Kingdom of Denmark, Ambassador Azmal Kabir of Bangladesh and Ambassador Simona Halperin of Israel.

Timor-Leste and Denmark established diplomatic relations in 2003. As a development partner Denmark supports the work of multilateral agencies and also supports the g7+ group nations, which is comprised of so-called “fragile” countries and has been led by Timor-Leste.

Ambassador of Bangladesh, Major Generál Azmal Kabir, who comes from the military career, has stated that he will work to strengthen relations between the two countries. Ambassador Azmal Kabir is acquainted with Timor-Leste where, in 2001, he headed a military engineering unit of Banglasdesh, under the UN flag, serving the Provisional Administration UNTAET.

Israel and Timor-Leste established diplomatic relations in 2002 and developed bilateral cooperation in agriculture in the period 2015-2017 with training of Timorese students through the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
The two countries also cooperate in the area of Defence as the Israeli government has provided training seminars for Falintil-FDTL personnel.

Timor-Leste supported Israel’s applications to various international agencies.
