SUPERIOR COUNCIL OF DEFENCE AND SECURITY ACCEPTS THE DECISION TO DISMISS FILOMENO PAIXÃO

Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, 5 July – The President of the Republic Francisco Guterres Lú Olo on Thursday presided over the meeting of the Superior Council of Defence and Security on the dismissal of the deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Filomeno Paixão, who has been appointed to the 8th Constitutional Government as minister of Defence.

The representative of the Chief of the Civil House, Gregório Sousa, said that the decision was unanimous and that the President of the Republic will soon render the decision by presidential decree.

The proposal to dismiss the deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces was sent to the Head of State by the 8th Constitutional Government following Brigadier General Filomeno Paixão’s appointment to the Defence portfolio.

The Superior Council of Defence and Security is made up of the following members: President of the Republic Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak, Major-General Lere Anan Timur (General Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces), Commissioner Julio Hornay (Commandant-General of the PNTL), Dionisio Babo (Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation), Minister of Justice Manuel Carceres, Manuel Serrano (diretor of the National Intelligence Service), David Diaz Mandati (member of parliament from FRETILIN), Adérito Hugo da Costa (member of parliament from CNRT), Abel Pires (member of parliament from PLP) and Cristina da Silva.
