Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, Tuesday, 11 September: The President of the Republic Francisco Guterres Lú Olo was officially inaugurated as patron of the União Nacional dos Escuteiros de Timor-Leste (Scout Association of Timor-Leste, UNE-TL).
At the inauguration ceremony, the Head of State expressed his willingness to help developing the association during his mandate.
‘I will seek to support this association and promote it at national level and abroad. I hope that, through organised work and a strong leadership, we will manage to attract new members who will turn into responsible citizens and leaders,” the President of the Republic said in his speech.
The Head of State acknowledged the work done by the association within just 13 years, which shows the dedication of the members to turning children and youths into responsible citizens as individuals, as members of their families, towards the people, the country and the international community.
H.E. Francisco Guterres Lú Olo congratulated the UNE-TL on launching a tree planting initiative which is in line with one of his political commitments, namely environment protection and sustainable development. Within the framework of this commitment, the President of the Republic will plant one million trees during his mandate together with the competent authorities, including civil society organisations such as the UNE-TL, among others.
As patron of the UNE-TL, the Head of State asked the association to inform the people of the commitments he has made, namely to unite the People regardless of political affiliation, social and economic status, religion, ethnicity or race; to be the President of all and for all; not to exclude any person or group, and; to look at issues related to environment and sustainable development.
