Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, Bairro Pité, 16 October – The President of the Republic Francisco Guterres Lú Olo received the letters of credence from the new ambassador of Malaysia to Timor-Lest, Sarimah Akbar.

The presentation of the letters of credence shows that the government Malaysia is committed to strengthening the bilateral relations with Timor-Leste in the areas of capacity-building, security and defence.

The secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Antoninho Araújo, who accompanied the President of the Republic at the ceremony, said that Malaysia is committed to supporting the accession process of Timor-Leste to ASEAN and to strengthening the cooperation with Timor-Leste.

On the occasion, the Head of State thanked Malaysia for its support to Timor-Leste at different levels and said that he hopes that the presentation of the letters of credence will strengthen the relations between both countries. The President of the Republic also said that Malaysia’s support to Timor-Leste’s aspiration to join ASEAN will contribute to expanding the ASEAN family.
