Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, 18 October – President of the Republic Francisco Guterres Lú Olo held a meeting with Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak to talk about the current state of the preparations for the 2019 State Budget.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister said that the Budget Review Commission has requested each ministry to submit its 2019 budget proposals from 22 to 27 October. On 8 November, the 8th Constitutional Government will present the budget to National Parliament. It is estimated that the budget would be a total of USD 1.3 billion.

On the 2018 budget, Taur Matan Ruak believes that the fact that there are still vacant cabinet positions has an impact on budget execution, despite the efforts made to minimize it. Due to the twelfths system in force until last September, State institutions have two and a half months to execute the budget.

On the government members who are yet to be sworn-in, the Head of Government said that the matter is still under discussion, but that it will be solved someday.
