HIS HOLINESS POSTPONES OFFICIAL VISIT TO TIMOR-LESTE UNTIL NEXT YEAR

The President of the Republic Francisco Guterres Lú Olo today held a meeting with the representative of the Vatican in Timor-Leste, Monsignor Marco Sprizzi, who informed him that the Holy Father Pope Francis has postponed his official visit to Timor-Leste until next year, at a date to be determined.
Pope Francis has decided to postpone his visit due to the Covid-19 which continues to spread at a fast pace and, therefore, mass gatherings should be avoided.
Preparations for His Holiness’ visit were already under way.
In the letter handed over by the representative of the Vatican in Timor-Leste to the President of the Republic, the Holy See expressed its appreciation for the goodwill and cooperation of the Timorese authorities in ensuring the success of the visit.
