Dili, 6 December 2016 – On the occasion of the 68th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Human Rights Day, which falls on 10 December each year, the Presidency of the Republic will hold a series of events at Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.

The commemoration begins with the presentation of the “Sérgio Vieira de Mello” Human Rights Award, created on 18 March by Decree Law no. 15/2009, to organisations and individuals who contribute to the realisation of human rights in Timor-Leste. The sum of 10.000 (ten thousand) dollars will be awarded to each winner.

The winners of the Human Rights Award are the following according to each category:

Civil and Political Rights category

  1. Judicial System Monitoring Programme (JSMP)
  2. Graciana da Silva – Moris Foun Liquiçá Foundation (FMF)

Social, Economic and Cultural Rights category

  1. Orphanage Mate La Mohu “Kiak Serve Kiak”
  2. An-Nur Foundation
  1. Father Francesco Moser and Father Pierluigi Fornasier – Brazilian priests from Ataúro
  1. Marciana da Graça – teacher at Koileki school

Also on 10 December, the Presidency of the Republicwill release the book ‘A Presidência de Proximidade de Taur Matan Ruak‘ (The Proximity Presidency of Taur Matan Ruak) and the ‘Suku 1 Lia Meno 4‘ magazine, as well as an album and several poems inspired by His Excellency’s visits to the country’s sucos. The Head of State will then hand over plaques and certificates to the individuals mentioned below so as to thank them for participating in the community dialogue sessions arranged by H.E. Taur Matan Ruak and for the warm hospitality shown to the Head of State on the occasion of his visit to their sucos:

  3. Head of Lepo Village, Zumalai administrative post, Aniceto Ferreira

To finish the day of celebration, Hanai Malu cooperative will be launched. The ceremony will take place at the Presidential Palace’s heliport. END
