Brasilia, 31 October 2016 – H.E. the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, held on Monday, 31 October, a courtesy call with his Portuguese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on the occasion of the 11th summit of the CPLP.
On this occasion, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa congratulated H.E. Taur Matan Ruak for the success achieved during the presidency of the CPLP by Timor-Leste over the past two years (2014-2016).
The two heads of State took the opportunity to talk about the relations of cooperation between Portugal and Timor-Leste, namely in the area of justice. Still on this occasion, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa asked the Portuguese Secretary of State for Cooperation to make the necessary arrangements to ensure communication between the ministries of Justice of both countries and the secondment of judges and experts to Timor so as to further develop the sector.
They also discussed the bilateral cooperation in the area of education, in particular the support given by Portugal to the expansion of Portuguese language in Timor.
Timor-Leste continues to request the secondment of Portuguese teachers to the entire Timorese territory to provide capacity-building to 4,000 Timorese teachers.END
