Dili, 21 January 2015 – His Excellency the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, this Wednesday at the Presidential Palace met with Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão to talk about the security situation in the country and also the delegation of administrative power to Oecussi Special Zone of Social Market Economy (ZEEMS) which will become official this month.
“We basically talked about [national] stability and our program for Oecussi,” Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão told the press after the meeting.
“I told Mr President about my recent trip to Laga. Last Thursday afternoon I was told that Mr Mauk and his group had attacked a police vehicle, detained the police officers, seized their weapons and set the vehicle on fire. This is a crime against the State, that’s why I went. I came back as soon as the injured police officers were admitted to hospital. I came back as I had enough information to pass on to the police commanders,” he explained.
The Head of Government added that he hopes that Mauk Moruk will take responsibility for his actions and surrender.
Speaking of a recent explosion at a U.S. Embassy residential property last Sunday, the Prime Minister said that it had been an attempt to divert the attention of the Government and that he, as Minister of Defence and Security, has already taken the necessary measures to avoid recurrence of the same incident.
On the delegation of administrative power to the ZEEMS, the Prime Minister said that the Head of State is pleased with the decision and considers it a success for the Government.
