Dili, 20 January 2015 – His Excellency the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, this Monday at the Presidential Palace hosted a courtesy call from the Secretary of State for the Portuguese Communities, José Cesário, who was accompanied by the Portuguese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Manuel António de Jesus.
“It was just a conversation between two friends”, the Secretary of State told the press after the meeting.
“I came to convey the [Portuguese] Government’s and my own greetings to Mr President and reiterate [Portugal’s] will to contribute to the development of Timor-Leste and to bring our peoples together. We spoke globally about the relation between our countries, I repeat, we spoke globally about our future co-operation and the importance of learning the Portuguese language,” he added.
José Cesário also mentioned that H.E. the President of the Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, agrees with all topics discussed in the meeting.
