Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, Dili, 25 June 2020
Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak thanked the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, for having sworn in new members of the government, thus completing the formation process of the 8th Constitutional Government.
In a press statement after the meeting with the Head of State, the Prime Minister said that he was pleased that the formation process of the government has finally ended and that the conditions are met to move forward:
‘I’m very happy, because my team is now complete. For nearly two years, we operated on three wheels. This is the first time that we are driving on four wheels. I hope that, with this time, efforts will be made, services will be provided to citizens, the state machinery will function smoothly and a response is provided to the health situation, the economy and social problems.’
Taur Matan Ruak added that the fact that the government is now complete will increase the state budget execution rate.
On the distribution of financial relief to families, the Head of Government said that the payment is now being made in Dili and that the process should only take one or two days to complete.
Speaking about the existence of households that have not yet received financial relief, it is up to the Ministry of Social Solidarity to find out what went wrong.
The Prime Minister hopes that the National Parliament will approve the Anti-Corruption Law as quickly as possible.
Commission A of the National Parliament has already met with the Anti-Corruption Commission and civil society organisations to exchange views and enrich the bill before the discussion for approval.
