COURTS REDUCE THE NUMBER OF PENDING CASES

The President of the Court of Appeal, Deolindo dos Santos, has had his monthly meeting with President Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, during which he reported on the work of the courts in the last month, notably the reduction in the number of civil and criminal cases pending in the lower courts and in the Court of Appeal.

‘The courts have undertaken great efforts to keep up the current pace of work in order to achieve better results in the future,’ said Deolindo dos Santos.

At the meeting with the Head of State, Deolindo dos Santos went on to talk about the implementation of the judiciary budget and about the presentation of the budget for 2021, which will take place tomorrow, Tuesday.

The President of the Court of Appeal also took the opportunity to formally invite the Head of State to lay the cornerstone stone of the Dili District Court building on 25 November.

On this occasion, President Francisco Guterres Lú Olo called for greater efficiency and expediency from the courts in order to ensure effective justice. The Head of State also noted that the Court of Appeal, in its capacity as a chamber of auditors, has a duty to set an example in terms of compliance with budgetary implementation rules.
