Today, the Chief of Staff of the Presidency of the Republic, Henriqueta Maria da Silva, participated at the “Timor-Leste OceanX Symposium: Science for a Blue Future,” held at the Dili Convention Centre.
Organized by the Government in partnership with the global ocean exploration initiative OceanX, this landmark event gathered government institutions, renowned scientists, and international partners to discuss translating groundbreaking marine science into practical action for the nation’s sustainable Blue Economy development.
During the symposium, discussions centered on the preliminary findings and stunning imagery gathered during OceanX’s pioneering November 2025 scientific mission to Timorese waters. By participating in these critical dialogues, the Presidency reinforces its strong support for using comprehensive marine datasets, including seafloor mapping and biodiversity observations to guide national decision-making. These scientific insights are deemed essential for advancing sustainable fisheries management, marine spatial planning, and the protection of vital ecosystems such as the Ataúro National Park.
The Presidency of the Republic views this symposium as a pivotal step in bridging scientific research with effective national policy. The Chief of Staff’s presence underscores the State’s unwavering commitment to the Strategic Development Plan 2011–2030 and the ongoing effort to expand opportunities for Timorese scientists, students, and officials. Through these collaborative efforts, Timor-Leste is transforming unprecedented knowledge of its ocean into a resilient marine environment and sustainable economic prosperity for its people.
