President Meets With U.S. Officials To Discuss Development Partnership Program

Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, April 1st, 2024, The President of the Republic, J. Ramos-Horta, met with Marc A. Weinstock, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Timor-Leste, and Gigi Goodhart from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) at the Presidential Palace, to hold discussions regarding a major bilateral development program between the two nations. Their discussion focused on the work of the MCC with a budget of $420 million, a five-year initiative that focuses on improving water, sanitation, drainage, and education in Timor-Leste.

President Ramos-Horta Meets With Asean Chief On Timor-Leste’s Membership Accession To ASEAN

Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, April 2, 2024 , President J. Ramos-Horta met with ASEAN Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace to discuss Timor-Leste’s bid to become a full member of the regional bloc ASEAN. In the interview after the meeting, Hourn praised Ramos-Horta’s “very strong commitment to bring Timor-Leste to be part of ASEAN.” He said the discussions covered how Timor-Leste can participate in ASEAN activities and support the group’s efforts even before gaining full membership.

President Meets Indonesian Delegation On Community Development Program

Presidential Palace Nicolau Lobato, April 2, 2024, President of the Republic J. Ramos-Horta held a meeting with an Indonesian delegation at the Presidential Palace in Dili. In an interview after the meeting, the team expressed their gratitude that the President received them very well. The objective was to present a pro-community program that the delegation plans to implement in Timor-Leste.

According to sources, the meeting began with Rogerio expressing his gratitude to President Ramos-Horta for his recent visit to the Oe-Cusse region during the Holy Week of Easter. The visit was seen as a gesture of the President’s commitment to the development of the autonomous region.

Ramos-Horta met with Indra McCormick, the newly appointed Australian Ambassador to Portugal, and this meeting took place at the Presidential Palace on Friday. Timor-Leste Welcomes Japanese Maritime Ship With Open Arms

Dili, April 12th, 2024. In a warm display of friendship and cooperation, President J. Ramos-Horta welcomed the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force Ship MURASAME and its commander, Navy Captain Kawano Kunihiko, to Dili on April 12th, 2024. Speaking at a reception hosted by Japanese Ambassador Tetsuya Kimura, President Ramos-Horta expressed Timor-Leste’s gratitude for Japan’s longstanding support, saying “At our darkest moments, Japan was an unwavering partner.” He highlighted Japan’s crucial role in restoring peace and stability in Timor-Leste starting in 1999, including hosting the first donor conference that pledged over $520 million in aid.

The Head Of State Holds Quarterly Meeting With Chamber Of Commerce And Industry Timor-Leste

Ramos-Horta met with representatives from the Timor-Leste Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI-TL) that was led by CCI-TL President Jorge Manuel de Araújo Serrano,  at the Presidential Palace. The meeting was part of the CCI-TL’s quarterly updates with the President. Jorge Serrano stated that the discussions focused on the chamber’s ongoing work to consolidate its networks across Timor-Leste’s 13 municipalities, provide training and advocacy for its members, and represent the needs of the broader business community.

President Ramos-Horta Meets Portuguese Parliamentary Leader In Lisbon

Lisbon, Portugal, April 24, 2024. The President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, J. Ramos-Horta, met with the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal, José P.C. Aguiar Branco. This meeting took place at the Palácio de São Bento in Lisbon, Portugal. This meeting happened because Timor-Leste and Portugal are seeking to further strengthen relations between the two nations that stem from historical ties dating back to when Timor-Leste was a Portuguese colony until 1975. The Head of State spoke further about the possibility of Portugal’s economic and commercial presence in Timor-Leste.

President Ramos-Horta Continues To Provide Social Support In Viqueque

Viqueque, April 27, 2024. President of the Republic, J. Ramos-Horta, through the Civil Society Service and Social Affairs (SSAS) of the Presidency of the Republic, continues to provide social support to citizens in rural areas. Thus, on the 26th and 27th of this month, social support was provided to the communities in Suku Uma-Tolu, Administrative Post Lacluta, Suku Uma-Uain Kraik, Administrative Post Viqueque, and Suku Afaloicai, Administrative Post Uatulari, Viqueque Municipality with a total of 60 beneficiaries.
