President J. Ramos-Horta held a regular meeting with Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão today at the Presidential Palace in Dili. The meeting agenda focused on updates from the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Australia and the ASEAN leaders’ meeting, where global and regional issues were discussed.

At the beginning of his interview, PM Gusmão spoke about climate change issues, stating that climate change for us is like a change in the seasonal calendar to know when the rainy season arrives, but he emphasized the need for collective action to mitigate the impacts on vulnerable nations like Timor-Leste.

During the ASEAN leaders’ meeting, regional and global concerns such as the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Myanmar were the focus of discussion. Regarding this issue, PM Gusmão reiterated his call for dialogue-based solutions, urging all parties involved to pursue peaceful negotiations. Furthermore, as Timor-Leste continues to strive for its goal of becoming a permanent member of ASEAN in 2025, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s commitment to regional cooperation and stability.

The meetings also discussed Timor-Leste’s active involvement in domestic and international issues, as well as the close working relationship between the President and the Prime Minister in advancing the nation’s agenda.
