Bobonaro, June 25, 2024

President J. Ramos-Horta recently visited Ermera and Bobonaro Municipalities, inaugurating a new health center and accompanying medical personnel housing in Kolimau Village. The facilities aim to improve healthcare access and living conditions for medical personnel in the rural area.

During the inauguration, President Ramos-Horta emphasized the importance of providing both essential health infrastructure and adequate housing for healthcare workers. This dual approach ensures that we not only have a facility to treat patients but also comfortable living quarters to retain qualified doctors and health professionals in rural areas.

The President addressed reports of unprofessional behavior by some health workers, advising them to treat patients with respect and kindness. He stressed that quality healthcare encompasses both medical treatment and compassionate patient care.

President Ramos-Horta also continued to distribute basic necessities to those most in need in the communities he visited. This trip underscores the President’s comprehensive efforts to improve healthcare delivery in rural areas of Timor-Leste, addressing infrastructure, staffing, and community needs simultaneously within the limited capacity of the presidency.
