Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, June 28, 2024. President J. Ramos-Horta launched the “Proteina Loron-Loron” (Daily Protein) video series at the Presidential Palace Garden in Dili on June 28, 2024. This innovative cooking show, created by Plan International Timor-Leste and supported by the Australian Government, aims to combat malnutrition in Timor-Leste, where stunting affects 46% of children.

During the launch, President Ramos-Horta emphasized the importance of nutrition for children’s development. He expressed hope that the videos would accurately represent Timor-Leste’s situation and stressed the need for community engagement in teaching the content.

The series features prominent figures, including the President, Vice Prime Minister, and national athletes, showcasing Timor-Leste’s unique food and culture while promoting accessible high-protein foods. It aims to educate families about protein consumption and encourage behavior change to improve nutrition.

Lucia Camoes, Plan International’s Project Manager, explained that the cooking show focuses on positive role modeling to encourage protein consumption. The freely accessible series is part of a broader project addressing nutrition, hygiene, and parenting education in Timor-Leste, offering a new approach to combating malnutrition and promoting a healthier future for the country’s children.
