Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, April 4, 2024, President J. Ramos-Horta held regular meetings with Head of Government Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão at the Presidential Palace. The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues facing Timor-Leste.

Related to that, the Prime Minister informed the President that the government has approved a resolution to extend the suspension of martial arts activities, not to punish the groups, but because some students became involved in fights due to tensions between different martial arts factions. However, the Head of Government said the government plans to organize competitions for the martial arts groups in an effort to change their mentality in a more positive direction.

Preparation for Timor-Leste’s bid to join ASEAN was also on the agenda. Xanana Gusmão updated President on the recent visit by the ASEAN Secretary General and the launch of the “Future Leaders for ASEAN” program to get youth more engaged. The Prime Minister encouraged the country’s young generation to get involved in positive actions that can contribute to Timor-Leste’s development.
