Nicolau Lobato President Palace, 19th February 2024, The non-resident Ambassadors from eleven countries present their Credentials to the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and Nobel Peace Laureate, J. Ramos- Horta, at an official ceremony took place at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.


The presidential ceremony formalizes diplomatic ties between Timor-Leste and following nations: Arab Republic of Egypt, Canada, Denmark, Hellenic Republic (Greece), Islamic Republic of Iran, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Kingdom of Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Republic of South Africa and Sweden.


As an independent sovereign state, strengthening friendships and cooperation globally and regionally is imperative for Timor-Leste. The establishment of these new diplomatic channel pave the way for enhanced political, economic, social and cultural collaboration for mutual benefit of all countries involved.


The following are the non-resident Ambassadors from eleven countries that present their credential;

  1. His Excellency Yasser Hassan Farag Elshemy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt residing in Jakarta – Indonesia.
  2. His Excellency Jess Dutton, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada residing in Jakarta – Indonesia.
  3. His Excellency Sten Frimodt Nielsen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Denmark, residing in Jakarta – Indonesia.
  4. His Excellency Georgios Dogoritis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hellenic Republic (Greece) residing in Singapore.
  5. His Excellency Mohammad Boroujerdi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran residing in Jakarta – Indonesia.
  6. His Excellency Ameer Khurram Rathore, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan residing in Jakarta – Indonesia.
  7. His Excellency Tean Samnang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia residing in Jakarta – Indonesia.
  8. His Excellency Khamfeuang Phanthaxay, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic residing in Jakarta – Indonesia.
  9. His Excellency Nor Eddine Benfreha, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria residing in Canberra – Australia.
  10. His Excellency Mpetjane Kgaogelo Lekgoro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Republic of South Africa residing in Jakarta – Indonesia.

The ceremony highlights Timor-Leste’s growing international profile and further development of diplomatic relations with nations around the world since restoring independence in 2002.
