PRESIDENT J. RAMOS-HORTA EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY WITH NEPAL FOLLOWING DEVASTATING FLOODS AND LANDSLIDES

The President of the Republic and Nobel Peace Laureate, J. Ramos-Horta, has expressed deepest condolences to the President, Government, and people of Nepal following the catastrophic landslides and floods that recently have struck various parts of the country.
In an official letter dated 31 August 2026 addressed to His Excellency Mr Ramchandra Paudel, Right Honourable President of Nepal, President Ramos-Horta expressed profound sadness over the tragic loss of lives, the high number of people reported missing, and the widespread destruction of communities, homes, and critical infrastructure.
President Ramos-Horta stated:
“I wish to express my deepest condolences to Your Excellency, the Government and the People of Nepal, in particular to the families of the victims of the devastating landslides and floods that recently struck various parts of the country. We received with profound sadness the news of the loss of lives, the high number of people reported missing, and the serious damage caused to communities, homes, roads and other infrastructure. At this time of great suffering and distress, I wish to convey to the families who have lost their loved ones our sincere solidarity and compassion, as well as our wishes for strength and hope to the affected communities and to the teams continuing to carry out search, rescue and relief operations.”
Timor-Leste expresses its full solidarity with the people of Nepal at this difficult time and hopes that the ongoing emergency and recovery efforts will help save lives, provide assistance to survivors, and rebuild the affected communities.
