President and Nobel Peace Laureate, J. Ramos-Horta awarded the Medal of Merit and Certificate of Recognition to the Brazilian Journalist, Mr. Claudio Savaget, in a special ceremony presided by Chief of Staff of the Presidency of the Republic of Timor-Leste, Mrs. Jesuína Maria Ferreira Gomes, at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.

The distinguished honors acknowledge Mr. Savaget’s vital contributions to the development of democracy in Timor-Leste over the past decade.
“On behalf of President Ramos-Horta, I thank Mr. Savage for joining alongside our citizen on the journey, documenting each moment-both difficult and triumphant-which through his dedicated work has left an uplifting, indelible mark on our history.” Said Chief of Staff Jesuína Gomes.

After 10 years living and working in Timor-Leste, Mr. Savage is returning to Brazil. President Ramos-Horta extend the nation’s profound gratitude for his service and unwavering compassion.

Claudio Savaget is an acclaimed journalist, photographer, editor and TV director with over 40 years in media production focused on environmental and social issues. His pioneering work includes creating and producing the popular weekly TV Program “Globo Ecology” and leading nationwide environmental awareness campaign in Brazil. Since 2013, Savage has worked on social communication projects in Timor-Leste.
