PRESIDENT RAMOS-HORTA RECEIVES CREDENTIALS OF NEW AMBASSADORS FROM ARGENTINA, CHILE AND GHANA

Dili, May 28th, 2024

President and Nobel Peace Laureate, J. Ramos-Horta received the credentials of newly appointed Ambassadors from the Argentine Republic, The Republic of Chile, and The Republic of Ghana in a ceremony held at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.

His Excellency Mr. Gustavo Ricardo Coppa presented his Letters of Credence as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Argentine Republic to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, resident in Jakarta, Indonesia

His Excellency Mr. Mario Ignacio Artaza Loyola presented his Letters of Credence as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Chile to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, also resident in Jakarta.

Her Excellency Mrs. Florence Buerki Akonor Presented her Letters of Credence as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ghana to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, resident in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

President Ramos-Horta welcome the new Ambassadors and reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s commitment to strengthening friendly relations and bilateral cooperation with Argentina, Chile, and Ghana for mutual benefit of all peoples.

The President highlighted Timor-Leste’s longstanding ties with Argentina dating back to the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2002. He welcomes ongoing cooperation, including through a 2013 technical cooperation agreement facilitating exchanges and joint projects.

With Chile, the President noted the two nations historical relationship during Timor-Leste’s struggle for independence. President expressed appreciation for Chile’s support of Timor-Leste candidacies at the United Nations and hope for expanded ties with the new Ambassador.

Regarding Ghana, President Ramos-Horta reiterated Timor-Leste’s desire to bolster friendly relations initiated in 2002. President encouraged Ghana to establish a resident diplomatic mission in Dili to facilitate closer cooperation, including through multilateral forum like the g7+ and CPLP.

The President congratulated the three new Ambassadors and looked forward to working closely with them to advance the respective bilateral agendas, enhancing the bonds of friendship and exploring mutually beneficial partnership across various sectors in the years ahead.
