President and Nobel Peace Laureate, J. Ramos-Horta formally swore in Pascásio de Rosa Alves as the new Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic for the Central Office of State Litigation and Collective and Diffuse Interests. Mr. Alves took the oath during a ceremony at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.

In his new position, Mr. Alves serve a three-year term overseeing legal matters related to defending the state’s interests and assets involved in high-level government contracts and agreements. This Key role will be integral to safeguarding Timor-Leste’s rights as nation negotiates major deals over the next several years.

 “I have full confidence in his abilities to carry out these important duties with integrity and excellence,” said President Ramos-Horta.

Mr. Alves Appointment follows Decree No. 28/2023, issued on May 16, 2023 after consultation with the Superior Council of the Public Prosecution Service in accordance with the Constitution and statute of the Public Prosecution Service.

A career prosecutor, Mr. Alves has served in numerous roles within the Prosecutor General’s Office since 2011, including as Coordinator of the State Litigation Service. He previously worked as a lawyer from 2007-2008 after completing his legal studies at the University 17 August 1945 (UNTAG), Semarang, Indonesia in 2004.
