Maputo, Mozambique, July 6, 2024. President J. Ramos-Horta met with former Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano at the Polana Serena Hotel in Maputo. The meeting was part of Ramos-Horta’s ongoing state visit to Mozambique, scheduled from July 3 to 7.

During their discussion, the two leaders focused on matters of mutual interest and reaffirmed the strong historical ties between two nations. President Ramos-Horta took the opportunity to express Timor-Leste’s gratitude for Mozambique’s longstanding support, particularly during Timor-Leste’s struggle for independence.

The Timorese leader specifically acknowledged Dr. Chissano’s pivotal role, along with other Mozambican diplomats, in garnering international support for Timor-Leste’s cause. This meeting underscores the continued importance of diplomatic relations between the two Portuguese-speaking nations.

President Ramos-Horta’s visit to Mozambique aims to further strengthen bilateral ties and explore new areas of cooperation between the two countries.
